Droople featuring in 2025 Energy €fficiency Report of Solar Impulse Foundation

November 11th, 2025 - Between 2024 and 2025, droople's water monitoring system has generated nearly €480,000 in annual savings, avoided 894,720 kWh of energy use, and preserved over 4 million litres of drinking water at Axa's 60 000 m2 Paris headquarter.

Axa
Paris, FRANCE

At AXA’s 60’000 m² headquarters in Paris, improving water and energy efficiency was both a challenge and an opportunity. Traditional systems for heating and sanitary facilities lacked monitoring or optimization features, meaning inefficiencies – from leaks to unsolicited hot water circulation – often went unnoticed until they generated higher bills, wasted resources, and unnecessary maintenance interventions.

To address this, AXA deployed Droople’s Water Intelligence Platform, a digital monitoring and optimization system combining IoT sensors (iLink Smart Pressure, Flow Mono, Trion Mono) with AI-driven analytics. Installed across two sanitary blocks and three boilers, the platform provided a continuous stream of real-time data on water flow, pressure, and temperature. This allowed facility managers to detect anomalies instantly, optimize distribution, and schedule targeted maintenance rather than rely on reactive interventions.

The insights proved transformative. Long periods of unsolicited hot water use were uncovered, enabling AXA to deactivate half of its water heaters. Early detection of malfunctioning equipment reduced waste and unplanned maintenance. Together, these measures translated into nearly €239,600 over 6 months in savings across energy, water, and operations.

The impact extended beyond economics: 447,360 kWh of energy saved has avoided the emission of 44 tCO₂eq, while more than 2 million litres of drinking water were preserved. With unplanned interventions down by 10%, staff can dedicate time to sustainability initiatives – proving how digital intelligence unlocks hidden value in existing infrastructure.

THE ECONOMIC IMPACTS

• €223,680 saved on AXA’s HQ’s energy bill, from reduced boiler energy consumption.

• €8,750 on municipal water bills through early detection of leaks and malfunctioning fixtures.

• €7,160 saved annually on maintenance budgets thanks to a 10% reduction in unplanned interventions.

• Over 10 years, cumulative savings exceed €4.7 million across energy, water, and maintenance.

• The ROI for this project is 1.17%, while the payback time is about 12 months.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL IMPACTS

• 447,360 kWh of energy avoided, equivalent to the annual electricity use of 220 French households.

• A massive 2 million litres of drinking water were saved over the project’s lifespan, avoiding waste and easing pressure on municipal supplies.

• 44 tonnes of CO₂ were avoided throughout the project, strengthening AXA’s decarbonisation pathway.

• Targeted awareness campaigns using real data could unlock a further 15% reduction in water and energy use, while educating employees about resource efficiency.

KEY DRIVERS FOR SCALABILITY

The AXA pilot shows that digital water management can unlock major savings without disrupting existing operations, a model that can be replicated across large portfolios if certain conditions are in place:

• Cloud-based architecture: delivered as a cloud solution that can be white-labelled by utilities, ensuring consisten performance and easy deployment.

• Flexibility and adaptability: designed to operate effectively under varied physical, legal, cultural, and environmental contexts, ensuring suitability for each water or energy company.

• Integration: SaaS platform connects seamlessly to existing billing, smart meter, and CRM systems without requiring heavy IT overhauls.

• Regulatory compliance: supports energy efficiency mandates and aligns with local regulations to ensure compliance.

• Ease of deployment: enables quick implementation through direct API plug & play integration into IT suppliers’ ecosystems.

• Quality and standards compliance: ISO-certified solution ensuring adherence to internationally recognised quality and data standards, reducing procurement barriers.

Helping to reduce pollution and increase the energy efficiency on the catering processes and industry.
Water is still too often managed blindly. Invisible leaks, reactive maintenance, poorly anticipated risks… even though the data already exists. In its Sustainable Development supplement, Bilan shows how water intelligence is becoming a key lever for performance and sustainability.
